Southern Chile | 2017, 2018
Experience incredible roads and first class hospitality amidst
the splendor of the Andes Mountains!
Our signature tour under our Cycle Chile brand, this seven day cycling adventure begins with an airport transfer from Temuco (ZCO) to the lakeside city of Pucón and progresses south over seven days to Puerto Varas. We'll average 50 to 70 miles daily along wide open roads amidst the splendor of the Andes Mountains and the beauty of Northern Patagonia's scenic lakes region. Each day's ride will include mechanical and sag support, ride leaders with local knowledge, and on-the-road catered lunches and ride fuel. A variety of side excursions and once in a lifetime photo opportunities will compliment the many challenging profiles of each days ride. Side excursions include hiking, fly-fishing, boating, or a tour of a local attraction on the route!

Pucón to Pucón, 50 mi | 80 km
Welcome to Southern Chile & Northern Patagonia! We’ll unpack bikes and assemble after breakfast, then shake off the travel legs and climb to Termas de Huife (Huife Hot Springs) and the Rio (river) Liacura Valley at the base of Volcano Villarica. Enjoy lunch on the shores of Lago (lake) Caburga, then descend back to scenic Pucón. We’ll sample local cuisine and local wines and watch the sunset over Lago Villarica.
Panguipulli > Llifen, 85 mi | 138 km
Rolling countryside and farmland awaits as we depart from Panguipulli. We’ll follow Rio San Pedro for much of the morning before a lunch on the road near Lago Ranco in the heart of the Lakes Region. We’ll arrive on the west end of the lake and the small village of Llifen, then follow the Calcurrupe River 7 miles to the rustic Mavidahue Lodge owned for generations by the Vasquez Family.
Llifen > Lago Puyehue, 115/70 mi | 187/113 km
Two distance options are available to us as we continue our journey southward. Choose the longer 115 mile option and your first 25 miles or so are on dirt along Lago Puyehue. We’ll shuttle everyone else to the western slopes of Volcano Puyehue and the open farmland at the foothills of the Andes. We’ll cross Rio Chirre and head back upstream to Lago Puyehue and the hot springs at the base of the volcano.
Puerto Octay > Volcano Osorno , 66 mi | 107 km
The ascent of Volcano Osorno awaits as we make our way south along the waters of Lago Lliancuhue. The climb proceeds from the lake through rain forest to the volcanic, open landscape that is Volcano Osorno. Reminiscent of Mont Ventoux in France, the ascent features switchbacks to 20% grade near the top bring us to the small ski area base lodge and the snow-capped summit.
Ensenada > Puerto Varas, 40 mi | 64 km
Our final day is a promenade along the blue waters of Lago Lliancuhue with several opportunities along the lake for photos of Volcano Osorno in the background. 19th Century German colonization is apparent in the architecture of Puerto Varas - this small Northern Patagonia city on the lake!. Enjoy the shops and restaurants, waterfront, and the warm hospitality of Southern Chile!
Lago Puyehue > Puerto Octay, 52 mi | 84 km
It’s a recovery day for us of sorts, as we rest from the previous long day in the saddle and we prepare for our epic ascent of Volcano Osorno tomorrow. We’ll head west back along the lake to the small city of Entre Lagos, then south through cattle farms to Lago Rupanco the 2nd most southern volcanic lake of the Lakes Region. Well head back west to the merger of Rio Rahue and Rio Coihueco, then south to our riverside lodging for the evening just north of the resort town of Puerto Octay. Rest the legs - tomorrow is a big day!
Pucón > Panguipulli, 65 mi | 105 km
We’ll load your gear into the vans after breakfast at the hotel and depart on bicycle along volcanic Lake Villarica toward the small, lakeside city of Villarica. From Villarica we climb out of the lake valley toward the resort town of Licán Ray on the shores of Lago Calafquen. Enjoy the views of Volcano Villarica as we round the lake and ride west toward the City of Panguipulli on Lago Lafquen.
